The Aerosol Technology Laboratory provides learning opportunities for students, degree candidates and faculty researchers, and offers a variety of services to a broad spectrum of industries. In this section you can find a description of the installed equipment and the capabilities of the test facilities.
We are constantly performing laboratory tests of new filters for general ventilation applications according to ISO 16890 standards and monitoring in-situ data acquisitions of air quality properties. Moreover, we develop research projects and provide consulting and training services to industrial clients while being integrated within the academic structure of the Politecnico di Torino, offering learning opportunities to students and researchers through different collaboration schemes
Air Filter Test Duct
The test duct accepts industry-standard 610×610 mm air filters and allows us to perform tests according to ISO 16890 and ASHRAE 52.2. The duct is equipped with two blowers, one upstream of the entrance plenum and the other one downstream, at the end of the duct; these are equipped with a variable speed drive. The test duct is fitted with nozzles for flow measurement, static taps and manometers for filter resistance measurement, sampling probes for particle counting, and a dust feeder. It is used for measuring full-scale filter efficiencies, pressure drops, and assessing filters behavior with dust loading.
The maximum airflow rate obtainable is about 6500 m3/h and the maximum airflow resistance of the filter under test is about 2500 Pa. This allows us to perform mechanical resistance and fatigue tests of air filters for gas turbine applications.
